Sections
Administration
Administration is responsible for the development and maintenance of corporate processes and procedures, budget development and maintenance, communication, strategic planning, liaison with City Management Team and other management groups. The Director of IT is also the Chair of the Information Technology Strategic Team which consists of senior level managers from across the organization charged with the task of providing strategic direction.
Network and Client Support
This group is responsible for the help desk function providing first and second level desktop support for all employees on all corporate software and hardware. Development and support of the data and voice network infrastructure within the city and outside to the Internet is also the responsibility of this section.
Corporate Applications
This area is responsible for database management, application development, maintenance and support for all corporate applications. It is also responsible for the development and implementation of the City’s web based services.
Geographical Information Services
This area is responsible for the development and maintenance of corporate geographic information and applications. Staff in this area are responsible for the map.hamilton.ca website (introduction).
Centres of Expertise
This area is responsible for the planning and allocation of technical resources and project management specialists to cross-functional teams in addition to the deployment of project management methodologies. It also is the conduit between the business units and the Information Technology section encouraging a corporate approach to technology initiatives. Staff in this area provide technical and business consulting services by teaming with individual business units in the evaluation and delivery of technology solutions.
