      A MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF:

Welcome to the Hamilton Fire Department website. Serving a population of over 519,000 citizens in an area of approximately 1,200 square kilometers, the Hamilton Fire Department is a Department rich in history.

From our origins in 1833 as the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Brigade to the beginnings of a full time Department in 1879, the Hamilton Fire Department continues to be at the forefront of technology and a leader in the fire service across Canada.

We recently celebrated our realignment with the Community Services Department of the City and at the same time we honoured our past by officially re-establishing our name as the Hamilton Fire Department.

In the past 134 years, over one thousand, eight hundred and twenty-five men and women have joined the Hamilton Fire Department and added their signatures to the roster of the Department. The history and long standing traditions of the Department continue with each passing day and through all the changes, what remains constant is the commitment of all members of the Hamilton Fire Department in serving the citizens of Hamilton.

I would like to thank you for visiting our website! For those who have visited before, you will see the beginning of many changes that we are making in order to better serve the public. It is our hope that you will find the information contained within our pages helpful in ensuring the safety of you and all your family members.
