The Building Engineering & Zoning Section has been designed to provide a comfortable environment for both the staff and the customers who visit the Building Services Division. There are several consultation offices in which the public can obtain personal and private service. Customers are accommodated on a drop-in basis or they may choose to take advantage of our by-appointment option, enabling those customers with a busy schedule to arrange a time most convenient to themselves.
The Building Engineering & Zoning Section of the Hamilton Building Services Division also provides answers to telephone inquiries from the public who require general information for which a visit to the division may not be necessary. Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) are available daily to provide the following general information to the public regarding:

Building Permit information
In most cases, a customer applying for a building permit will deal directly with the same Customer Service Representative who will oversee the building permit from the initial application stage through to issuance. This one-on-one approach enables the CSR to provide a preliminary review of plans with the customer present and in some cases the permit can be issued the same day.
For larger commercial, industrial or multiple residential projects, the building permit applications are processed by Building Engineers and Senior Plans Examiners on staff.
