Parkside Drive Improvements

Study Overview
The City of Hamilton has initiated a Schedule C (Phase 3 and 4) Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) for Parkside Drive to examine road improvements to Parkside Drive, from Highway 6 to 500m east of Churchill Ave (see map below). This study is building on the recommendations of the Hamilton Transportation Master Plan (May 2007). The required improvements may include road widening to accommodate a continuous two-way left turn lane, as well as a bicycle lane and pedestrian sidewalk.

The study currently includes the following components:

  • development of reasonable alternative design concepts;
  • evaluation of alternatives based on natural, social, economic and technical criteria;
  • selection of a preferred alternative for Parkside Drive;
  • completion of an Environmental Study Report to document all activities undertaken.

The Process

This study is being planned as a Schedule C project under the Municipal Class EA (Municipal Engineers Association, October 2000, as amended in 2007). As Phases 1 and 2 of the EA process have already been completed through the City’s Transportation Master Plan (2007), this Study will fulfill the requirements of Phases 3 and 4 of the Municipal Class EA Process.

A key component of the study will be consultation with interested stakeholders (public, landowners and regulatory agencies). A Public Information Centre (PIC) will be held later this year to provide interested parties with an opportunity to review and discuss issues related to the study. Details regarding the forthcoming PIC will be advertised as the study progresses.
