Municipal Law Enforcement (MLE)

Education and awareness are important aspects of Municipal Law Enforcement (MLE). The MLE section enforces over 50 by-laws. Municipal Law Enforcement Officers investigate complaints received from the public about alleged violations of various municipal by-laws.
 
MLE is organized into four enforcement teams that respond to complaints and conduct proactive inspections. Below are the teams with a list of some of the municipal by-laws that they enforce.

  • Anti-idling
  • Dog feces (accumulation of dog feces in backyards)
  • Icicles (icicles hanging over side walks or walk ways)
  • Illegal dumping
  • Sidewalk snow clearing
  • Lawn watering: Property owners and occupants with even addresses are only allowed to water on even days and property owners and occupants with odd addresses are only allowed to water on odd days.
  • Parks by-law
  • Pesticide
  • Pigeon by-law
  • Road allowance
  • Trees
  • Yard maintenance: i.e. long grass cannot exceed 8 inches
