Parking Meters and Pay & Displays
Parking Meters
On-street parking meters in the Downtown are $1.00 per hour. All meters are clearly signed and marked with rates and times relative to each parking space. In addition, the hours of operation may vary according to location by either time of day and/or day of week. A large portion of the downtown allows for free on-street parking after 6:00 p.m. daily, all day Saturday, Sunday and Statutory Holidays.
Because the cost and hours of operation vary, it is strongly suggested that when parking, the driver carefully examines the parking meter rate plate to determine which criteria applies. The map visually shows where the various regulations are stituated.
The remaining on-street parking meters (outside the Downtown) are also $1.00 per hour and are enforced from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday to Wednesday and Saturday, and from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday and Fridays.
In all cases, motorists should ensure that they check the parking meter rate plate and parking signs to ensure that there is not a rush hour restriction at the location. Rush hour routes are designated in areas where extra travel lanes are required to handle the additional commuter traffic.
Employees of the City of Hamilton's Parking Operations Section are responsible for all aspects associated with parking meters. Duties include the repair, installation, removal, maintenance and collection of approximately 2,400 on-street parking meters City wide.
Technicians inspect the parking meters on a daily basis. Response time to repair a reported malfunctioning meter is under 24-hours.
To report a broken parking meter, call (905) 540-6000 and a Customer Service Representative will be able to assist.
Pay And Display Pay and Display (P&D) machines are multi-space parking pay machines and are found in most City of Hamilton car parks. P&D machines are solar powered with an electronic display and instructions designed to be easy to use.
Once you've parked your vehicle, locate a P&D machine and select the desired length of time required and a receipt will be produced to display on your vehicle dashboard face up.
Pay and display machines are visually more pleasing and take up less car park or sidewalk space than parking meters. If a P&D machine isn’t working customers can go to another machine in the area to pay.
Employees of the City of Hamilton’s Parking Operations Section are responsible for all aspects associated with P&D machines. Duties include the repair, installation, removal, maintenance and collection of approximately 40 P&D machines.
Technicians inspect the P&D machines on a daily basis. Response time to repair a reported malfunctioning P&D machine is under 24-hours.
