City of Hamilton - Planning & Economic Development
Ancaster Wilson Street Secondary Plan
Through a City Wide Planning Review of secondary plans, the Ancaster Wilson Street area (Wilson Street corridor and surrounding area) has been idenitified as a priority area. This review identified priority areas for future Secondary Plans based on a number of different criteria, including: conformity with provincial planning documents; coordination with other City initiatives and projects; the need for detailed planning analysis; the desire to create complete and sustainable communities; and, the need to protect and revitalize valuable nature and cultural resources.

Through the Growth Related Integrated Development Strategy (GRIDS) and the Urban Hamilton Official Plan, this area has been designated as a "Community Node". |
The Ancaster Community Node area is a high priority to incorporate provincial policy direction, to work in conjunction with ongoing Public Works projects such as the Ancaster Transportation Master Plan, and for the protection of the heritage character and identity. In addition, the majority of the Secondary Plan work has been done in the recent growth areas of Ancaster south of Highway 403. Downtown Ancaster has never benefited from this type of detailed planning review.
