Municipal Numbers and Street Names

The City of Hamilton Planning Section is the only authority for asigning Municipal Numbers.

The Street naming and renaming Policy and Guidelines outlines the process for assigning street names in new subdivisions, polices on what types of names are permitted and the requirements on how to change an existing street name.

The Municipal Numbering Policy and Guidelines outlines how municipal numbers are assigned to a property, and the requirements to change an existing address.

For a change of address or additional number, a Request Form (PDF or Word ) must be completed and sent in with the required payment. Contact the Planning Department at 905-546-2424 Ext. 4348 to ensure that the proposed change of address or additional number can be accommodated. You can also email Paul.Toffoletti@hamilton.ca .

If you know your Lot number and Registered Plan Number (62M), you can look up the Municipal Address from the Registered Plans.

Please Note: The City of Hamilton is NOT responsible for Postal Codes (For Postal Codes, please see the Canada Post site or call David Kyle at 1-519-520-0795 or david.kyle@canadapost.ca for new subdivisions).
