GIS - Planning & Analysis

GIS-Planning and Analysis is the main internal resource for the creation, collection, maintenance, distribution and analysis of GIS land use data for the Planning and Economic Development Department.

Key Responsibilities include:

• The development and maintenance of a series of spatial land use databases, some of which include residential development, employment areas, parks and open space and natural heritage areas for the City;
• Support inter regional organizations and inter departments who rely on land use inventories, census demographics, assessment data, etc;
• Preparation of specialized tabular and GIS mapping products derived from sources such as Census Canada census demographics, Municipal Property Assessment Corporation, internal land use and natural heritage inventory datasets, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) housing starts, and City building permits for both internal and public use;
• Support various corporate projects, such as the Emme2 update, Integrated Energy Mapping for Ontario Communities (IEMOC), City of Hamilton: Detailed Value Planning Analysis, Light Rail Transit and PAN AM Games;
• Produce various statistics and general publications for public consumption and market analysis project, such as the 2006 Ward Profiles (Addendum 11/11/2010);
• Provincial and Interprovincial Initiatives, such as the Regional Information Systems Working Group (RISWG), Provincial Growth Statement/Growth Targets, Canadian Council on Social Development (CCSD), Data Consortium and URISA.
