City of Hamilton - Planning & Economic Development

Corporate Projects

Building a Strong Foundation is a bold initiative coordinated by the City of Hamilton to implement Vision 2020 by integrating it directly into some of the City's primary decision-making processes: the Growth-Related Integrated Development Strategy (GRIDS), the Master Plans for Transportation, Water and Wastewater, the new Official Plan and the Social Development Strategy.

Building a Strong Foundation

BASF raises the bar on previous strategic initiatives in that it recognizes the relationships between and necessary synchronization/coordination of these high level initiatives. The initiatives complement and feed into each other. GRIDS, the OP and the Master Plans are being carried out simultaneously in an iterative manner in order to garner the synthesis that is required to achieve the necessary conditions to make the recommended outcomes a reality.

Vision 2020 Vision 2020 - VISION 2020 is a collection of goals, strategies, actions and measures for achieving sustainability in our community. It was developed through a broad-based community process. The Vision describes what the citizens of Hamilton want their city to be like in the future. The Official Plan provides specific policy direction for achieving various physical aspects of the future city.
GRIDS GRIDS - GRIDS (Growth-Related Integrated Development Strategy) is a growth analysis that will determine how much and where the future growth of the City will take place over the next 30+ years. GRIDS focuses on the highest components of the Official Plan dealing with urban boundary and urban structure that will form the backbone of land use designation decisions in the Official Plan.
Social Development Strategy Social Development Strategy - The Social Development Strategy will address key issues such as Children & Families, Skills Development and Affordable Housing. The strategy is guided by a Social Vision developed by the Caledon Institute and is developed and acted upon to advance a social agenda that addresses challenges specific to Hamilton.
