Cemeteries

New Zoning By-Law Cememteries Header

As part of the new Parks and Open Space zones all urban cemeteries, which are not associated with a church, are being rezoned; those cemeteries that do not fall within the urban area or are associated with a church will be rezoned when the Institutional or Rural Zones go forward.

This consolidation exercise is mainly administrative and is being done for the purpose of consistency. As it stands now, urban cemeteries can be found in approximately 6-10 different zones as laid out in the Former Zoning By-laws of Ancaster, Dundas, Flamborough, Glanbrook, Hamilton and Stoney Creek.

It is the intent of the Zoning By-law Reform Section to have the rezoning of these properties take place by the end of summer 2007.

The City has invited all owners of urban cemetery properties to comment on the proposed P4 Zoning. These comments must be forwarded to the City no later than Friday, April 13, 2007.
