City of Hamilton - Planning & Economic Development
Policy Planning
Policy Planning is charged with the development of a new Official Plan for the amalgamated City of Hamilton. This work involves several wide reaching research programs and studies in coordination with other Corporate Projects (Growth Related Integrate Development Strategy, Infrastructure Master Plans, the Human Services Plan and Zoning By-law Reform). The work will ultimately lead to an innovative and forward thinking policy document that will guide our urban and rural structure until 2031.
The Rural Hamilton Official Plan has been adopted by Council, has received approval from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. Ontario Municipal Board appeals are pending.
The Urban Hamilton Official Plan was adopted by Council in July 2009 and is awaiting approval from the Province.
Policy Planning houses and maintains the seven Official Plans of the former Regional and local municipalities. Administrative duties include maintenance and consolidation of the Official Plans.
