Commuter Challenge Student Involvement Initiative
Yellow Day Bus Challenge (Wednesday June 3, 2009)
Calling on All Students to Wear Yellow Clothing to School on this Day!
The Commuter Challenge Week (June 1 to 5, 2009) has traditionally involved those who commute to and from work. In recent years, students have also been encouraged to participate in this event which aims to reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses produced by the Hamilton community. We believe that this is an important message and learning opportunity for young students and believe that their participation is vital.
On Wednesday, June 3, 2009, elementary schools across the City of Hamilton will be invited to compete for the “Best Human Bus” Award! It will be “Yellow Day” at elementary schools and during recess or lunch the students will be asked to create a human bus. The younger grades are encouraged to create the base of the bus while the older grades will be creating “art” around the bus.
We are asking all parents to please dress your child in yellow clothing on Wednesday June 3. For instance, a yellow t-shirt or hat would be a good start. When the students form the human bus, the yellow clothing will stand out in the picture. Wearing yellow also promotes sustainable transportation and gets all students involved!
Schools are asked to take pictures of the bus and send them to the City of Hamilton for evaluation. The school with the most innovative and creative human bus will win a athletic and arts related prizes.
