THE PROJECT

Newalta Passive Park and Dog Park (W9) – An agreement (dated April 17, 1985) between the then Taro Aggregates Ltd. and Philip Environmental Inc. (today’s Newalta Corporation) to develop the closed West Quarry Land (northwest corner of Mud Street and First Road West) into a Passive Park. The Passive Park will include accessible walking trails (with connection to the East Mountain Loop Trail in the west, the Heritage Green Community Sports Park in the north, and the Heritage Green subdivision in the northeast), seating at rest points along the trail, a Dog Park and tree planting. Due to an increase in Dog Park users, the passive park lands will incorporate a 4-5 acre fenced leash-free Dog Park with a double gate entrance, seating areas, shade tree planting and pathway. A lighted parking lot with accessible ramp, stairs and maintenance access to the Passive Park/Dog Park is proposed.

MEETINGS AND PRESENTATIONS

PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE No.1

The City of Hamilton's Public Works Department is proposing to undertake three exciting projects that will enhance active/passive park recreational activities for the residents of Stoney Creek. The Heritage Green Community Sports Park Master Plan has been updated to reflect recent changes in programming needs. Newalta, in partnership with the City of Hamilton, will be providing a 5.0 acre (2.0 ha.) "Dog park" within a 56.0 acre (23.0 ha.) passive park setting south of the Sports Park. The passive portion of the park will contain a multi-use trail system that will connect with existing and proposed trail systems including the East Mountain Trail Loop.

A Public Information Centre was held on Wednesday May 16, 2012 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm at the Winterberry Heights Salvation Army located at 300 Winterberry Drive, Stoney Creek.
