A public information centre was held on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Turner Park Library, Adult Program Room at 353 Rymal Road East. During the public meeting City Staff discussed the work to date at the Olmstead property, as well as future plans for a walkway and long term management of the site. A formal presentation was given.
The panels below were on display, showcasing the proposed vegetation design for the property. The proposed design includes both a native tallgrass prairie as well as native meadow, which can be seen on this panel. City staff heard concerns from residents regarding safety of users of the proposed walkway if the tallgrass prairie was established directly adjacent to the path, due to the 5'-7' growing heights of some of the species. In light of these comments, the city is proposing to isolate the very tall plants to planting areas away from the path. Representative cross-sections of what this will look like can be found on this panel.
