THE STUDY
The City of Hamilton has initiated a study to consider a wide range of options to address recent significant erosion damage that has occurred within a watercourse that descends from the top of the escarpment and through the Chedoke Golf Course lands [see map]. As a result of the erosion, the City of Hamilton has closed a portion of the Chedoke Rail Trail Path (Bruce Trail) in order to ensure the community’s safety following a recommendation from our Geotechnical consultants.
The study will investigate and assess required watercourse system repairs and address the environmental impacts of the proposed alternatives for watercourse system repairs. The proposed Class EA Study will utilize a study process that seeks to avoid, minimize or prevent adverse environmental effects of any proposed works.
THE PROCESS
This notice signals the commencement of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment - a study which will define the problem, identify and evaluate alternative solutions, and determine a preferred solution in consultation with the City of Hamilton, regulatory agencies, and the public. The study is being conducted in compliance with Schedule B of the Municipal Engineers’ Association Class Environmental Assessment process (June 2000), which is approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. Upon completion of the Study, an Environmental Study Report will be prepared and will be made available for public review. An advertisement will be published at that time.
PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE No. 1
A Public Information Centre (PIC) was held on October 11, 2007 at the Chedoke Golf Course to allow stakeholders with an opportunity to meet the Project Team, review the evaluation of alternative solutions and the draft preferred solution, as well as discuss issues related to the implementation of the project. Below is a list of materials which was presented at the PIC:
