The City of Hamilton has undertaken a Transportation Master Plan for the downtown to develop policies and strategies for its transportation network. This Plan will be reviewed every 5 years.
IBI Group has been retained as the transportation planning consultants to prepare the comprehensive Downtown Transportation Master Plan. Several public consultation events will be held throughout this process .
THE STUDY
In 2001, The City of Hamilton completed a comprehensive Transportation Master Plan for Downtown Hamilton (see map for Study Area). This Master Plan identified several major changes to the transportation system, including one-way to two-way conversions and improvements to pedestrian and cycling facilities. Recent changes on Bay Street, James Street and John Street are a result of the 2001 Plan recommendations.
Consistent with the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) process, The City of Hamilton has initiated the mandatory 5-year review of the Downtown Transportation Master Plan (TMP). The objective of this mandatory review is to determine whether the recommendations of the 2001 TMP EA for the projects that have not yet been implemented are still valid or whether a more detailed review and analysis of the 2001 recommendations is warranted.
