Fruitland Rd. (Barton to Hwy 8) Environmental Assessment

INTRODUCTION
The section of Fruitland Road from Barton Street to Highway 8 is a two lane curb and gutter urban cross section with predominantly single family residential and derelict agricultural (future development) land uses.  The Fruitland Road Alignment 1992 Environmental Study Report (ESR) recommended an easterly realignment of this section of road.  With the City’s plan to expand the urban boundary and expected outputs from other planning studies (e.g. Truck Route Master Plan) and the recent opening of the Red Hill Valley Parkway, it is logical and appropriate to re-examine the recommendations of the Fruitland Road Alignment 1992 ESR.

STUDY AREA
The study area makes up the pre Fruitland-Winona Secondary Plan urban boundary of former municipality of Stoney Creek and will now be within the urban boundary of City of Hamilton.
The road in question is Fruitland Rd. including the northern intersection with Barton St. and southern intersection with Highway 8.  The study works will consider impacts of traffic from not just those two intersections, however, but many more locations in the surrounding area, to fully determine the scope of traffic and impact on stakeholders and residents in the area.

PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE (PIC) AND PUBLIC CONSULTATION
The City intends to hold meetings with the Fruitland-Winona Secondary Plan’s Community Advisory Committee (CAC) at key points within the project as well as hold one PIC in order to consult with and inform the residents and other interested parties in order to seek input to proposed alternatives and the alternative evaluation process.
