THE PROCESS

The Studies are being conducted as a Master Plan and is intended to satisfy Phases 1 and 2 of the Municipal Engineers Association (MEA) Municipal Class Environment Assessment Act (Class EA) process (October 2000, as amended in 2007). This will involve a process of problem / opportunity identification, evaluation of alternative solutions, and selection of a preferred solution.  Stakeholder consultation is an important part of the EA process, and a key component of the study.

WEST STONEY CREEK URBAN BOUNDARY EXPANSION AREA SUBWATERSHED STUDY

THE STUDY
The City of Hamilton is undertaking a Subwatershed Study for the West Stoney Creek Urban Boundary Expansion (SCUBE) Area.  The study area consists of the drainage boundaries for the streams which drain proposed future development areas within the SCUBE West lands.  This encompasses the lands between Fruitland Road and McNeilly Road, and from Lake Ontario to just above the Niagara Escarpment.

Phase 1 of the Subwatershed Study investigates and inventories the natural resources of the study area to identify environmental constraints and opportunities.  Phase 2 of the study will develop a management strategy for surface water (streams, stormwater), groundwater, and natural areas in order to protect and enhance the ecological process, functions and significant natural features of the study area as future land use changes occur in the Subwatershed.  A future third phase of the study will develop an implementation plan for the strategy.

PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE
A Public Information Centre will be held to present the Phase 1 and Phase 2 findings for the SCUBE West Subwatershed Study.  The intent of the public consultation is to present the findings to date and to obtain feedback and public input into the evaluation and selection of alternative solutions.

EAST STONEY CREEK URBAN BOUNDARY EXPANSION AREA SUBWATERSHED STUDY

THE STUDY
The City of Hamilton is undertaking a Subwatershed Study for the East Stoney Creek Urban Boundary Expansion (SCUBE) Area.  The study area consists of the drainage boundaries for the streams which drain proposed future development areas within the SCUBE East lands.  This encompasses the lands between McNeilly Road to the City boundary to the East, and from Lake Ontario to just above the Niagara Escarpment.

Phase 2 of the study will develop a management strategy for surface water (streams, stormwater), groundwater, and natural areas in order to protect and enhance the ecological process, functions and significant natural features of the study area as future land use changes occur in the Subwatershed.  A future third phase of the studies will develop an implementation plan for the strategy.

PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE
A Public Information Centre will be held to present the Phase 2 Subwatershed Study findings for the SCUBE East Subwatershed Study.  Phase 1 Subwatershed Study findings for the SCUBE East study area were presented at an earlier Public Information Centre in November 2008.  The intent of the public consultation is to present the findings to date and to obtain feedback and public input into the evaluation and selection of alternative solutions.
