About the Study
The City of Hamilton has initiated the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) process to address structural deficiencies at the Valley Inn Road Bridge.
Public Consultation
Public Information Centre No. 1
The first Public Information Centre was held on June 22, 2005, to introduce the project
and receive public input on the alternatives under consideration.
Public Information Centre No. 2
A second Public Information Centre was held on Monday December 12, 2005 to review the project and present the preferred alternative.
Recreational/Heritage Design Study
The Schedule B Class EA for the Valley Inn Road Bridge was completed, endorsed by Council and filed on the Public Record. The recommendation was to replace the existing bridge with a pedestrian structure. As a result of the trail/recreational component and heritage character of the area the City recommended to do a recreational/heritage design which would include various City Departments, the City of Burlington and affected agencies. Issues that would be reviewed would be the trail, heritage features ensuring a sympathetic bridge design, issues such as, but not limited to, design and character of the area and the bridge, pedestrians/bicycles and the streetscape, landscaping, signage, lighting, public art and designs that integrate the existing community.
The Valley Inn Road Recreational/Heritage Design Study is to determine the design of the pedestrian bridge, location of the terminus and turnarounds for Spring Garden and Valley Inn Roads and locations of potential parking lots with due regard to future trail plans.
Additional Public Consultation
A Public Open House will be held to present the Valley Inn Road Recreational/Heritage Design once it has been completed. Notification of the Open House date, time and location will be provided in the Hamilton Spectator At Your Service Ad and the Burlington Post once the design is complete.
