Watercourse Erosion Assessment Study

The Study
In recognition of the public property, health and safety concerns attributable to erosion within the watercourses, the City of Hamilton initiated a study to assess the city wide watercourse erosion sites (within the urban boundary) as shown on the map.



The primary objectives of this study would involve defining existing stream conditions, identifying areas of concern; prioritizing works and developing restoration and implementation plan for the erosion sites those are posing greatest risk.

The study is being planned using a Master Plan approach and is fulfilling Phases 1 & 2 of the Municipal Engineers Association Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process (Oct 2000 as amended in 2007).

Study Objectives
To protect public property, health and safety, development of an implementation plan through:

  • Identification of all erosion sites
  • Selection of the priority sites for restoration and implementation
  • Preparation of conceptual designs for each site
  • Monitoring of remaining sites

Public Consultation

Public Information Centre No. 1

Public Information Centers were held on November 24 and November 26 in Stoney Creek (Council Chamber, 777 Jones Road, 6:00 – 8:00 pm) and Dundas (Cope Town Recreational Centre, Main Hall, 1950 Governor’s Road, 6:00 – 8:00 pm) areas respectively.
