Horticulture and Spring Tide

The Forestry & Horticulture Section helps beautify the City of Hamilton. Each year, Horticulture staff produce over 500,000 seedlings at the Gage Park Greenhouse which are used in the City’s many traffic islands, floral displays, hanging baskets and planters. During summer months, many students work with full-time staff to plant and maintain the City’s many floral displays.

Horticulture staff are responsible for:

  • in excess of 28,500 sq. ft. of green house operations producing over 500,000 seedlings annually

  • approximately 70,000 sq. ft of traffic island planting beds (245 locations) and 58,500 sq. ft. of floral displays (196 planting beds)

  • 477 planters & 440 hanging baskets

  • an estimated 30,000 annual visitors to the green houses
