Fence Cost Share Program

The City of Hamilton offers a fence cost-share program for homeowners whose property abuts city park lands, district yards, recreation areas, etc.   The City of Hamilton will pay for half the cost of a four-foot chain link fence where the City desires a fence or where the abutting property owner requests a fence.

If the abutting property owner wishes to construct a higher or more expensive fence, the abutting property owner shall pay the additional cost.  The City, in turn, shall pay any additional cost if a higher or more expensive fence is required for our purposes.

The maintenance of the standard four foot chain link fence should be shared on a 50-50 basis between the City and the abutting property owner.  In the case where a different type of fence is installed (i.e. a wood fence), the person who installed such fence shall assume the total cost of maintenance.

For additional information, please contact the Parks Division.  Arrangements will be made to have a Supervisor contact you to discuss the situation and possible options.

Please note, the above policy does not apply to new subdivisions, as special arrangements are made with the builder of the sub-division regarding fence installation.  For information regarding fencing in new sub-divisions, please contact the Development Engineering Section at (905) 546-2424 ext. 2822.
