Solid Waste Management Master Plan
On December 12, 2001 Hamilton City Council approved a new plan to deal with the City's solid waste over the next 25 years. The Solid Waste Management Master Plan (SWMMP) was developed by a citizen committee and calls for an aggressive 65% waste diversion rate to be reached through expanded recycling and large scale composting.

Waste Reduction Task Force
A citizen committee, the Waste Reduction Task Force, has been established "to advise and assist the City of Hamilton with the implementation and monitoring of the Solid Waste Management Master Plan (SWWMP)"
Meetings are open to the public and occur on the third Wednesday of each month. Specific meeting dates, times and locations are published in local newspapers.
