ONE More Great Idea To Get To ONE Bag or Less Each Week March 15, 2010
Recharging the Debate on Haz Waste
One more way to get to one bag of garbage each week is to do what Diane and her husband do...
As the parents of a young child we have many games in the house that require batteries so we mostly buy rechargeables. When we do use non-rechargeables, we store the used ones in a handy container, which we take to the Dundas Community Recycling Centre when it’s full.
Diane – you and your husband have shared another GREAT idea – thanks! | |

Other Programs

The Apartment Recycling Program is provided by the City of Hamilton so that tenants may recycle items like glass bottles and jars, metal cans, plastic bottles, and paper products. Tenants are encouraged to participate in their buildings recycling programme. When we recycle, recyclable items do not go to the landfill. Instead, they are collected, sorted, processed and made into new items. The Blue Carts at your building are collected weekly. |
The Backyard Composting Program helps residents create their own compost using kitchen scraps as well as leaf and yard waste. Backyard composters are available for sale at your nearest Municipal Service Centre. |
Bulk Goods Collection is a service offered by the City of Hamilton to help residents dispose of items that are too large for regular garbage collection, e.g., couches and mattresses. You must call the City to arrange for collection of your Bulk Goods. |

The Household Hazardous Waste Program is run by the City of Hamilton in co-operation with Hotz Environmental to dispose of household hazardous waste (HHW). HHW cannot be sent to the landfill. Items like compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), batteries, and cleaners need to be taken to your local CRC. |
Landfill Sites are maintained by the City of Hamilton to ensure safe and proper disposal of residential waste. Our goal is 65% waste diversion from landfill by 2011. |
The Leaf and Yard Waste Program is intended to keep all Leaf and Yard waste (clippings, branches, brush) from going to the landfill. Leaf and Yard waste is processed into a very high quality compost. Unlimited quantities of Leaf and Yard waste is collected bi-weekly during the spring and fall. Please check your waste management calendar for collection dates. |

The Public Space Recycling Program is provided by the City of Hamilton to help residents recycle in public spaces. |
