City of Hamilton Backflow Prevention Program Update: The City of Hamilton is hoping to have a Water Backflow Prevention and Cross Connection Control By-law in place by the first quarter of 2010 with the first surveys due later in the year. Compliance for all high hazard facilities will be required first, followed by later compliance dates for facilities with all other hazards. Unfortunately, until the bylaw is passed details of the program will not be available. Public Meetings will be held once the bylaw is approved and exact details of the program are available for sharing. Please refer to this section of the website for further information, updates and contractor requirements for registration."
Program: The program is designed to prevent the backflow or reversal of normal direction of flow of water from a property to the municipal water system. The goal is to prevent these situations from occurring and if they should occur, to prevent contamination of the municipal water system.
