| There is a close connection between the sewer system and the environment. Putting household hazardous waste (like oil, or chemicals of any kind), grease or other objects down toilets or drains can not only cause expensive damage to your house connection and other parts of the system, but these substances or items may end up in watercourses and, ultimately, in Lake Ontario.
To maintain the flow of your drains and sewers, and protect the environment, please review the No Fat Sewers brochure and visit www.hamilton.ca/waste for details on proper household hazardous waste disposal (includes details for the disposal of waste oils, fats/greases, paints, medications, etc.)
Review the City’s Sewer Use By-law to learn more about discharge guidelines. |
