A Checklist for Your First Day and First Week
The City of Hamilton wants to make sure you have all the information you need to get a good start in your new position. Here's how we do it:
You and other new full-time employees will attend a corporate orientation and welcome session called “You Make It Happen”. Newcomers spend an exciting day discovering what we do at the City and how our programs and services make Hamilton a great place to live, work and play. Through face-to-face meetings with the Mayor, City Manager and other staff, you'll learn how to get a great start in your new role and how to excel in your service to the community. The City's excellent employeee programs and benefits are also discussed.
If you’re a new City of Hamilton employee, you can register by asking your supervisor or by going to to eNet (our intranet site) and click: "You Should Know"/"New Employee Orientation".
Meanwhile, here's a checklist of what to expect in your first day and week with the City.
Your supervisor, manager, or director will:

Welcome you to the department and introduce you to your co-workers |

Explain your role and responsibilities and give you an up-to-date job description |
 |
Provide an overview of your department and how it fits into the City structure |
 |
Introduce you to members of your team, unit, section, department |
 |
Explain hours of work, lunch, breaks and what to do if you are absent from work |
 |
Provide a list of contact names and phone numbers (departmental, divisional, external) |
 |
Make sure that you have access to the tools you will need for your job (computer, phone, etc.) |
You will learn how to:

Use the City’s computer network, intranet (eNet) and IT Help Desk (if applicable to your job) |
 |
Order/receive office supplies (if applicable) |
 |
Receive uniforms (if applicable) |
 |
Access office/workspace after-hours |
You will need to:
 |
Add your profile to the City phone directory on eNet (the City's intranet) |
 |
Learn your employee number |
 |
Obtain your security access such as photo ID cards, keys, door codes |
 |
Sign into My HR Info where you can access your employment information online (click here to learn how to sign into My HR Info) |
 |
Review the dress code (for more information see our HR Policies & Procedures) |
 |
Obtain a copy of the collective agreement if you are in a union position |
 |
Review specific departmental policies and procedures |
 |
Review Health & Safety policies and procedures (available here) |
You will need to complete employment paperwork prior to commencing work by:

Visiting Human Resources at the Standard Life Building, 120 King St. W., 9th Floor |

Bringing a void cheque and your Social Insurance Card. Please note: if your SIN # commences with a "9" bring your work permit also. |

The Human Resources Receptionist will provide you with employment paperwork: a) employee personal information form b) direct deposit forms c) tax forms d) key policies |
