A Community Recycling Centre (CRC) is a place where you can drop off extra stuff that isn't picked up at the curb every week. There is no cost to drop off stuff that will be recycled but you have to pay to drop off garbage at a CRC.

NEW! Bulky Rigid Plastics Recycling at the City's Community Recycling Centres – for a limited time only

For a limited time, the City of Hamilton will be accepting bulky, rigid, hard plastic items that are not accepted in the blue box. Please bring them to any of the City's three Community Recycling Centres.

  • Plastic garbage cans
  • Plastic laundry baskets
  • Plastic lawn furniture
  • Plastic pet carriers
  • Plastic pots
  • Plastic playhouses
  • Recycling bins
  • Totes and tool cases

Non-Acceptable Items

  • Car bumpers
  • Garden hoses
  • Pipes, piping and tubing
  • VHS / audio tapes
  • Vinyl siding and panels

These items are garbage.

Hours of operation

All Community Recycling Centres are open Monday to Saturday - 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. They are closed on:

  • Sundays
  • New Year's Day
  • Family Day
  • Good Friday

  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Hours of operation for green bin pick up (new homes)
If you have just moved into a new home and need to obtain your green bin, call 905-546-CITY (2489) to receive a service number. Once a service number is obtained, green carts and bins can be picked up from our "roaming" trailer. It rotates between each Community Recycling Centre according to the schedule below:

  • 27 Olympic Drive, Dundas:
    • Tuesdays: 10 am - 1 pm, 2 - 4 pm
    • 1st Saturday of each month: 9 am - 12 pm, 1 - 3 pm
                • 460 Kenora Ave. East, Hamilton:
                  • Wednesdays: 10 am - 1 pm, 2 - 4 pm
                  • 2nd Saturday of each month: 9 am - 12 pm, 1 - 3 pm
                                  • 37 Kilbride Road, Hamilton mountain:
                                    • Thursdays: 10 am - 1 pm, 2 - 4 pm
                                    • 3rd Saturday of each month: 9 am - 12 pm, 1 - 3 pm
                                                  • Tarp your load!

                                                    Be sure to secure the materials you’re bringing so that they don’t get left behind on your way to a CRC.

                                                        * If a load is mixed with garbage, the whole load will be charged based on the rates for garbage.

                                                        Commercial vehicles may complete an affidavit (obtained at the Transfer Station) which permits the commercial vehicle one trip per month as a non-commercial vehicle, provided waste is from the operator's own personal residence.

                                                        Deposits are required based on the gross weight of the vehicle.

                                                        What Goes to the CRC?

                                                        Here is a list of things you may have around your home that you can take to a CRC:

                                                        • Appliances: Most small appliances with a cord that plugs in can be taken to the electronics bin at a CRC.
                                                        • Electronics: Speakers that are in wood cases are NOT accepted.
                                                        • Furniture
                                                        • Garbage
                                                        • Household hazardous waste
                                                        • Recyclable paper and containers
                                                        • Tires: The rims must be removed. You can drop off four per day. Tractor tires are NOT accepted.
                                                        • Wood: Wood including 2x4's and 2x2's without any nails, screws, paint or stain can be dropped off. Logs that are no more than 30 centimetres (or 12 inches) in diameter and no longer than 1.2 metres (or 4 feet) can also be dropped off. Wood that is not accepted includes arborite counter tops, doors, laminated wood, painted wood, panelling, press-board, pressure treated wood, and wood with nails or screws in it. Railway ties are NOT accepted.

                                                        Reuse Store

                                                        The Reuse Store operated by Community Living Hamilton is located at the Hamilton Mountain CRC. You can donate things that are in good condition. Not everything you are trying to donate may be taken. Bicycle helmets, cribs, car seats are not accepted at the Reuse Store.
