Birthday Tea Party (Senior)

Mrs. Mary McQuesten wrote: "Tom had his birthday celebrated as usual, he has always been lucky in being home for a birth-day tea as the next day is Dominion Day". Tea was certainly part of birthdays for the McQuesten family from Grandfather's time until the 1930s. What did guests wear? What was served? What etiquette was expected? Learn about how tea parties have changed over the 116 years the family lived at Whitehern. Visit the family home in the 1930s with an interactive house tour then prepare a variety of types of teas available in the past. Food provided by the host will be served with the taste-testing of the teas, served in china cups and saucers with milk and sugar cubes. Finally the guests will learn the art of reading tea leaves and will have their fortunes told.
