Plaquing
The Joint Plaquing Sub-committee is a sub-committee of the Hamilton Historical Board and the Municipal Heritage Committee–Hamilton LACAC. It recommends for recognition, persons, places and events of significant heritage value. Three general categories of plaques have been established: Commemorative Plaques, Designated Property Plaques and Heritage Inventory Plaques.
Commemorative Plaques

Currently these are large (approx. 24” x 30”) cast aluminum plaques with black background and gold text and trim which recognize sites of architectural and / or historic importance. Normally only one of this category of plaque is issued annually.

Designated Property Plaque
 |
Currently these are small oval (approx. 12” x 9”) cast aluminum plaques with black background and gold text and trim which are awarded to buildings designated by the Municipality under the Ontario Heritage Act. Heritage Inventory Plaques

Currently these are small oval enamel plaques designed for heritage buildings which are not designated but are of sufficient merit to be Listed on the Inventory of Buildings of Architectural and / or Historical Interest. These plaques are paid for by the applicant / owner of the building. The applicant / owner is to supply information for the plaque text (e.g. architect, date of construction, etc), accompanied by the necessary documentation to verify the facts. |
