The City of Hamilton’s Recreation Division is committed to working with the community to maximize the benefits of recreation to all residents, including persons with disabilities.
To improve the delivery of recreational services to persons with disabilities, the City is developing a “Recreation Needs Assessment for Persons with Disabilities”. This study will identify barriers to recreational participation that may be affecting our disabled community. The study will also assess current and future needs, gaps, and capacities through a review of municipal and community-based services, programs, and activities. A comprehensive consultation program involving local residents, agencies, and groups will be an important part of this work.
Hamiltonians with disabilities have a need and a right to access quality recreation programs and services. Once completed in early 2012, this study will provide the City with a community-responsive strategy for providing these opportunities.
Please contact us if you wish to participate in the study or have any comments relating to the recreational needs of persons with disabilities.
