CELEBRATING SUCCESS!
VISION 2020 Sustainable Community Recognition Awards
The Annual Sustainable Community Recognition Awards are a major part of the community’s efforts to encourage support for VISION 2020. The Recognition Awards are a reminder that the goals of VISION 2020 can be realized today and that current activities are contributing significantly to the creation of a Sustainable Community. These awards recognize individuals, groups and organizations that are implementing the goals of VISION 2020 through:
-
Actions which contribute to the fulfillment of the human needs of the Hamilton community.
-
Actions which support the ecological integrity of Hamilton.
-
Active participation in the community.
-
Actions which recognize and achieve equity and fairness.
To honour recipients of VISION 2020 Sustainable Community Recognition Awards over the past few years, commemorative plaques have been installed along the Harbourfront Trail made possible by the funds received through the Dubai International Award for Best Practices.
In honour of our recipient’s contributions to sustainability, a native tree has been planted in their names at T.B. McQuesten Park ( Upper Wentworth Street ). The planting of trees contributes to the improvement in air quality by contributing to the implementation of strategy #90 in "Strategies for a Sustainable Community – 1998" by improving the ability of the natural environment to absorb pollutants. The trees also act as a natural noise barrier, enhance urban liveability and aesthetics, and act as a lasting reminder that the goals of VISION 2020 can be realized today.
