Stay healthy –If you are a woman have a regular Pap test. If you are 50 years and over, go for a mammogram (breast X-ray) at the Ontario Breast Screening Program. All persons aged 50 years and older without any symptoms or signs of colorectal cancer should be screened regularly for colorectal cancer.

This program is designed to help multi-cultural women learn how to stay healthy and how they can have screening tests for cancers of the breast and cervix in Hamilton.

Aboriginal Breast Health Train-the-Trainer Project
Cancer is a growing health concern among the Aboriginal population. Aboriginal women with breast cancer have the poorest five-year survival rate in North America.
Breast health education and screening can have a tremendous impact on the low five-year survival rate for Aboriginal women.
Given this, the De dwa da dehs nye>s Aboriginal Health Centre in partnership with the Ontario Breast Screening Program, Juravinski Cancer Centre and City of Hamilton Public Health Services, received funding through the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – Ontario Region to develop and implement an Aboriginal-specific Breast Health “Train-the-Trainer” Program.
Ultimately, the goal of the project is to reduce breast cancer mortality among Aboriginal women through increased breast health education and routine mammography screening.
