Influenza (Flu)

Return to Vaccines page

Where can I get a flu shot during the Fall 2014 to Winter 2015 season?

The flu shot is now available for all those who live, work or attend school in Ontario.

If you do not have a health card and live, work or attend school in Ontario, call 905-546-CITY (2489) for information on how to get the flu shot.

Check our Flu Shot Locations page for a list of locations, including approved pharmacies and clinics.

How can I prevent the spread of seasonal influenza?

Getting the flu shot is an important way to protect you and those around you from influenza. The flu virus spreads from person to person through coughing or sneezing. People can also get the flu by touching objects or surfaces with the virus on them and then their mouth or nose.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for 20 seconds.
  • Use an alcohol-based hand rub if there is no soap and water.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes.
  • Clean common objects and surfaces.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Do not share food, drink or personal items like toothbrushes.
  • Rest, sleep, exercise and eat nutritious food.

Where can I get posters and clinic documents?

You can download this year's posters. Hamilton Public Health Services' Seasonal Flu consent form and fact sheet are available online. Please email for printed copies and for generic copies to customize for your clinic setting.

How can I arrange a workplace flu clinic?

Doing what you can to keep your employees healthy is good for them and for you. Holding a workplace flu shot clinic is a smart business decision and will save you money. Learn more about the business case.

Flu vaccine is free for people in Ontario. Your business can pay for an approved health care agency to give the shots. Even with the cost of the vaccination, flu immunization results in a savings of over $55 per person vaccinated (Nichol et al., 1995).
