Sexual Health Clinics -  Sexual Health Program

 The City of Hamilton provides confidential sexual health clinic services by physicians, nurse practitioners and public health nurses to female and male clients. Clinic services are provided on a walk-in basis, no appointment necessary. No health card is required.

If you are attending one of our clinics for STI testing, please do not empty your bladder for 2 hours prior to your visit- we may require a urine sample.

Please note: Clients must register 15 minutes before clinic closes to be seen.

Services include:

  • Information about sexual health, safer sex practices, abstinence, and birth control options.
  • Low cost birth control available based on medical eligibility at all clinic locations except STD Hamilton General Hospital and Street Health clinic sites. Birth control options available: pill (limited products), patch (Evra) and ring (Nuva Ring).
  • Free Emergency Contraceptive Pill (ECP) also known as Plan B and the Morning After Pill (may be given up to 5 days after unprotected sex). Emergency Contraceptive Pill (ECP) is also available for purchase at pharmacies without a prescription or free at some walk-in clinics (please call local walk-in clinic before attending to be sure ECP available for free).
  • Free urine pregnancy testing when applicable at all sites.
  • Free Testing for sexually transmitted infections, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis, syphilis, herpes (if sore present) and HIV at all clinic sites (additional anonymous HIV and some STI testing available at Street Health sites). Please do not empty your bladder for 2 hours prior to your visit. Testing may involve collecting urine, blood and/or swabs.
  • Anonymous HIV testing available at all clinic sites if you prefer not to use your name. You will be identified by a code number that will be given to you at your first visit. You will need to bring this with you when you return for your results.
  • Rapid HIV Testing, also known as Point of Care. This test is done by a finger prick blood sample and the results are ready in a few minutes. Testing is available to clients that meet certain eligibility criteria. This service is not available at Waterdown Clinic
  • No phone results; all clients must return to clinic in 2 weeks for results.
  • The physician/nurse practitioner may need to complete a PAP test. You will be asked to show your health card if having a Pap test.
  • Free treatment for chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis infections available at all sites. Clients who are symptomatic and/or contacts may be treated before test results confirmed. Treatment for HPV (genital warts) is available at all sites except Waterdown, Wesley and Streeth Health clinic sites.
  • Free condoms at all sites.
  • Free Hepatitis A and B vaccines for persons at risk.
  • Free needle exchange and harm reduction supplies (eg. alcohol swabs, sterile water, ascorbic acid, filters, cookers, sharps containers for safe disposal of used needles, safe injecting information). Sorry supplies are not available to diabetic clients.

*NOTE: A clinic physician or nurse practitioner will be at the Dundas clinic site between 2:00 -4:00 p.m. on clinic days.

** NOTE: There is no physician or nurse practitioner at the Waterdown Clinic site.  Physical examinations may be scheduled at our Dundas clinic location. Taxi fare to the Dundas Clinic will be provided upon request for clients who do not have transportation..
