Sexual Health Clinics -  Sexual Health Program

The City of Hamilton provides confidential sexual health services to females and males at clinics  by physicians, nurse practitioners and public health nurses. Pap tests and low cost birth control are limited to clients age 19 and under. Clients aged 20 and older who are in financial need
may be eligible for low cost birth control.
    If you are attending one of our clinics for STI testing, please do not empty your bladder for 2 hours prior to your visit- we may require a urine sample. Thanks


Services include:

  • Counselling about abstinence from sexual activity
  • Information about birth control options
  • Birth control pill (low cost if eligible) and teaching
  • Birth control patch (Ortho Evra) available
  • Birth control ring (Nuva Ring) available
  • Free Emergency Contraceptive Pill (ECP) also know as Plan B and the  Morning After Pill (may be given up to 5 days after unprotected sex)
  • Pap test for females under the age of 20.You will be asked to show your health card if having a Pap test
  • Testing for sexually transmitted infections and HIV * (additional anonymous HIV testing sites). Please do not empty your bladder for 2 hours prior to your visit. A urine test may be required.
  • Free treatment for diagnosed or contacts of  chlamydia and gonorrhea infections. Symptomatic clients may also be treated 
  • Referral to other services as needed
  • Free condoms
  • Free needle exchange is available
  • Free urine pregnancy testing when applicable, counselling and referrals as needed
  • Rapid HIV Testing (also known as Point of Care) is now offered at all of our clinics.  This test is done by a finger prick blood sample and the results are ready in a few minutes.

*NOTE: Dundas Clinic physician is at clinic from 2:00 - 4:00 pm for booked appointments and walk-ins. Walk-ins are seen on a first-come first-served basis after booked appointments.

** NOTE: There will no longer be a physician or nurse practitioner at the Waterdown Clinic. All services but physical examinations will continue to be provided. Physical examinations will be scheduled at our Dundas clinic. Taxi fare to the Dundas Office will be provided upon request for clients who do not have transportation.
