West Nile Virus (WNV) - Prevention Plans in Hamilton
What is being done in Hamilton to reduce the risk of West Nile virus?
Hamilton is focusing on strategies with the least negative impact on human health, nature and the environment. Read the West Nile Virus Plan (pdf) for more details.
Activities include:
- Public education, including some steps residents can take to protect themselves from exposure to mosquitoes.
- Reducing mosquito breeding sites around the home and on private lands. You can help us by reporting standing water and removing standing water.
- Reducing and managing standing water on City lands.
- Monitoring and surveillance for presence of West Nile virus in mosquitos.
- Monitoring for the presence of West Nile virus in humans by ensuring prompt reporting of all cases of the disease by working with local physicians and hospitals.
- Controlling Larvae (Larviciding)
Catch Basin Treatment Dates
Catch basins are treated during the months of June, July, August and September.
