Support Programs - Affordable Transit Pass Program
The Affordable Transit Pass Program is to help employed City of Hamilton residents living with a low income purchase an adult monthly bus pass from the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) for half price. The number of passes available are limited and will be sold on a first come, first served basis. This program will run until the end of December 2010.

To qualify you must meet ALL of the following:
- You live in the City of Hamilton
- You are currently working in a full time, part time or casual position
(does not include those who are self-employed)
- You are between the ages of 18 to 64 years
(does not include those who qualify for HSR’s student or senior fares)

Receiving assistance from Ontario Works, the Ontario Disability Support Program but not receiving transportation costs for other activities (e.g. medical transportation);
OR
Family income falls below the 2006 Statistics Canada Low-Income Cut-Off for your family size (see table), able to provide last year’s Notice of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency and pay stubs that show 4 weeks in a row (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly)
How to Apply
- Download and complete the Affordable Transit Pass application form (pdf)
One application form can be used for you and your spouse or partner. If you need help completing this application, please call the number below to schedule an appointment.
- Drop off or mail your completed application form along with the Notice of Assessment and four week's pay stubs for each applicant on the form to:

Your application will be reviewed and a letter will be mailed indicating whether you have been approved or not approved and the reasons why. This will take 5 business days upon receipt of the application.
Application is Approved
- To buy your monthly Affordable Transit Pass you must show your approval letter at the HSR Ticket Office, 36 Hunter Street East (located in the Hamilton GO Station). Pay by cash or debit only.
- Please keep this letter. You will need to show it monthly in order to purchase your next monthly transit pass. This letter is good for six months, and will be initialed each time you buy your pass. You will need to re-apply for the program after six months.
- This pass is only valid for HSR transit, and does not include DARTS.
