HAMILTON, ON – April 19, 2005 – The recently reconstructed Fire/EMS Station #1, located at 35-43 John Street North, will be officially dedicated and opened in a brief ceremony this Wednesday morning.
The building was shut down in August of 2003 and the Fire crews were relocated to temporary accommodations (Quonset huts and trailers) across John Street North. The new station has been refitted to accommodate Fire and EMS crews.
While the interior of the building has been entirely reconstructed, the historical exterior of the building has been kept intact. One of the front bay doors was widened to accommodate a ladder truck, but the stone and brickwork around this door was restored to original condition to maintain the historical value and look of the building.
A brief dedication ceremony, attended by Mayor Larry Di Ianni and various Hamilton City Council members, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on April 20, 2005.
The public is also invited to attend this ceremony, and to get a close-up look at the new station, during a public open house that will run the same day from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Station #1 houses the paramedics, firefighters and equipment that protects the citizens and buildings of Hamilton’s downtown core.
