Operaland Trunk Express Introduces Kids to Opera at Hamilton Children's Museum

HAMILTON, ON –  April 22, 2005 –  Young visitors to the Hamilton Children’s Museum will have an opportunity to learn more about the world of opera, when an interactive program for kids is introduced next month.   Opera Hamilton’s OperaLand Express Trunk will visit the museum on Sunday, May 15 at 1 p.m.  The trunk is a ninety-minute dress rehearsal for children, from kindergarten to grade three.  Working with the New York City Opera’s prose version of G. Rossini’s operatic Cinderella – La Cenerentola, the kids are ‘directed’ and work through the making of the play.

The May session, in which participants will also be able to view snippets from the opera that show characters, sets and scenery, will be the first in the series of three.  Future sessions will be announced later this year.

The Hamilton Children’s Museum is owned and operated by the City of Hamilton and is located at 1072 Main St. E, Hamilton, in Gage Park. The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday - 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  For more information contact Karen McCartney, Education Officer at the Hamilton Children’s Museum, 905 546-4848 or kmccartn@hamilton.ca.
