What Mothers Want

HAMILTON, ON –  April 29, 2005 –  This Mother’s Day, the City of Hamilton Public Health and Community Services is offering a free Mother’s Day e-card.  This card is unique because it gives mothers what they want on Mothers Day and all year long. The Mother’s Day E-card is available on the Healthy Living Hamilton Web site www.doitwell.ca.  The card is part of the collaborative My turn, My time project, with surrounding health departments in Brant, Halton, Haldimand, Niagara, and Waterloo.  The Mother’s Day campaign encourages families to support the women in their lives to prioritize their health and take the time to enjoy being physically active.

“The card is unique, offering more than a traditional message.  The verse supports women to take their turn for leisure, fitness, and health, says Colleen Stahlbrand, Public Health Nurse with the City of Hamilton.  “It reads: ‘Your health is very important to me, your joy, your love, your energy.’ These are words that every mother wants to hear. Women have difficulty making time for themselves because of their commitment to family. Family support can make this happen.”

In addition to the e-card, the Web site offers mothers tips on how to find time and energy for their health.  The site also offers the sender gift ideas that will support mothers’ change in lifestyle, for example, a trial membership at a fitness center, a pedometer or a commitment to walk with her regularly.

Mothers will be deeply touched by the verse, support, and commitment when she reads, “You spend your time caring and giving; now it’s Your turn Your time for healthy living.  Happy Mother’s Day. “
