Mayor calls meeting with local group to hear concerns

Hamilton, ON – August 8, 2005 – Mayor Larry Di Ianni would like to issue an invitation to community leaders of the local group, Citizens Against Pig Slaughterhouses (CAPS) to attend a meeting to discuss concerns that they have raised around the proposed construction of a new Maple Leaf Foods plant in the North Glanbrook Industrial Park .

Mayor Di Ianni and city staff have met with company officials to discuss Hamilton being the new site of Maple Leaf Foods. The Mayor’s Office through the Invest In Hamilton team has been facilitating meetings with Maple Leaf Foods over the last several months in order to bring the plant to Hamilton.

“I am hopeful that as we begin the process of looking at Maple Leaf Foods as a prime tenant for the North Glanbrook Industrial Park, all the concerns raised by CAPS will be addressed,” said Mayor Di Ianni. "I will welcome the opportunity to meet with this group."

The city is finalizing the details of a sale of land that is the proposed site for a new $250 million state-of-the-art facility.
