Construction upgrades to King William Street

HAMILTON, ON –  August 12, 2005 – The City of Hamilton, as part of its ongoing commitment to upgrading infrastructure, will be improving municipal services on King William Street from Hughson Street to Wellington Street.  Construction is expected to start Monday, August 15, 2005 and will take approximately three months to complete.  The contract has been awarded to Lafarge Construction.

During construction, vehicular access on King William Street will be limited to local access only, this means only residents, workers, and emergency service vehicles will be allowed on the road.  Signs will be posted.  Safety is our first concern, for both the public and our workers.

The work is being undertaken to protect the long-term value of the City’s transportation and infrastructure assets and help enhance the quality of life for Hamiltonians.  Improvements along this road include: watermain replacement; streetscaping and road reconstruction.   Through watermain replacement the City can maintain its high standards of water quality and increase water volume for both residents and the fire hydrants.  Streetscaping provides aesthetic pleasure for residents and visitors to the community.  “Urban Braille” enhances way-finding and is a safety aid for visually and physically impaired pedestrians. This system of markings indicates directional changes, and side walk boundaries. Upgrading road infrastructure on city streets helps to improve traffic flow and ensure safe travel in the future.

Every effort will be made to complete the work in an expeditious manner and to keep any inconvenience to a minimum.

We thank you for your co-operation and support during the construction season.
