Council approves contract agreement with transit workers' ATU Local 107

HAMILTON, ON –  July 13, 2005 – Hamilton City Council has approved a collective bargaining agreement with the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 107, which represents approximately 600 Transit Workers at the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) including administrative and maintenance staff, and bus operators. The agreement was ratified by union membership on June 28, 2005.

The agreement covers the period January 1, 2004 to December 31, 2006, and provides for wage increases of 2.0 per cent in 2004, 2.25 per cent in each of 2005 and 2006. The deal includes improvements to shift and trade premiums along with health benefits.

“We are pleased to have reached an agreement with our transit workers,” said City Manager, Glen Peace. “In my estimation, this agreement is fair and equitable to both parties. The deal means the HSR will continue to provide quality transit service to our residents.”
