FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Do you remember meccano construction sets?
Meccano displays come to hamilton museum of steam and technology

HAMILTON, ON –  July 6, 2005 –  Members of the Canadian Modeling Association for Meccano & Allied Systems (CMAMAS) will be at the Hamilton Museum of Steam and Technology, Saturday, July 23 and Sunday July 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with their displays of fabulous constructions.  Visitors will enjoy many different types of displays such as ships, cranes, windmills, ferris wheels, telescopes, and much more.

The Association was formed to develop the hobby of model building with construction systems of metal or other prefabricated parts. They have united fellow enthusiasts from coast to coast in North America, and encourage new members to join the hobby.

Also on Sunday July 24th, the Golden Horseshoe Live Steamers are taking passengers, so please join us and take a ride on miniature live steam locomotives, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Golden Horseshoe Live Steamers are folks with an interest in building and operating miniature live steam locomotives.  These hand-made locomotives look, sound and smell like their full-sized cousins, only smaller. Relive the days of steam with a ride on one of these amazing engines.

Admission to the outdoor event is FREE. There is a small charge to tour the museum.

The Hamilton Museum of Steam and Technology, is owned and operated by the City of Hamilton, and is located at 900 Woodward Ave. The National Historic Site is the home of Hamilton’s first municipal water works. Beginning in 1859, water was pumped from the lake to the mountain reservoir, using two 70 ton steam engines. A tour of the pumphouse includes a chance to see these magnificent engines in motion and learn the work of the engineer, the stoker and the oiler. There are lots of children’s activities as well, which include a Thomas the Tank Engine layout for kids to play with.

From Toronto, take the QEW toward Niagara, over the Burlington Skyway bridge to exit 90, Woodward Ave. From Niagara take QEW eastbound to the Centennial Parkway, south to Barton Street, then right to Woodward, then right again to the museum.   For more information call 905 546-4797 or e-mail steammuseum@hamilton.ca
