April 26, 2006 – Hamilton Council’s newly appointed Independent Community Panel will be holding its initial meeting on May 2, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. in City Hall, Room 110.
The initial meeting will include a preliminary discussion of causes and effects of inclement weather on the storm management and drainage systems in Hamilton; an overview of 2005 storm events; storm water master planning; and the Mountview neighbourhood storm water study.
Hamilton Council approved the creation of the Independent Community Panel for storm events on September 1, 2005. On March 22, 2006, Council appointed five members each bringing a range of expertise in various disciplines to the Panel. The members are as follows:
- Mr Paul Kovacs – Founder and Executive Director for the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction
- Dr. Paul A. Kay – Professor, University of Waterloo, specializing in flood prevention and management
- Dr. Yiping Guo – Professor, McMaster University, specializing in watershed planning and storm water management
- Mr. Carl Bodimead – Consulting Engineer with Hatch Mott MacDonald, specializing in wastewater engineering
- Mr. Marck Schollen – Landscape Architect specializing in extensive knowledge relating to landscape and plant issues related to stormwater management
It is anticipated, the Independent Community Panel, an advisory group for Council, will be providing an overview over the coming months. Updates will be made available.
