Smoke-Free Ontario Act information sessions for tobacco retailers

Hamilton , ON – April 27, 2006 – The City of Hamilton will be holding three information sessions for tobacco retailers within the city during the first week of May to answer questions about the Smoke-Free Ontario Act and how it will affect retailers. Public Health Services will facilitate the sessions.

The goals of the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, which comes into effect June 1, 2006, include making all workplaces and public places smoke-free, limiting the promotion of tobacco products, and having tighter restrictions on selling tobacco to minors. The Act will have implications for tobacco retailers with regards to how tobacco products can be promoted and sold in their businesses.

Retailers can register for one of the following information sessions:

  • Tuesday, May 2 from 6pm-7pm at the Sheraton Hotel located at 116 King St. W.
  • Wednesday, May 3 from 10am-11am at Chandelier Place located at 660 Barton St.
  • Thursday, May 4 from 10am-11am at Michelangelo Banquet Centre at 1555 Upper Ottawa St.

To request more information call the Tobacco Hotline at 905-540-5566 before May 2.
