HAMILTON

– The City of Hamilton, as part of its ongoing commitment to upgrading infrastructure, will be constructing a new pedestrian bridge on Mary Street between Barton Street and Simcoe Street. Construction is expected to start Monday, August 28, 2006 and will take approximately four months to complete. The contract was awarded to Rankin Construction Inc.
The Mary Street bridge was closed in July 2005 to vehicular traffic. The decision to close at that time was undertaken to protect the health and well-being of the residents of Hamilton. Safety was our first concern. Although precautions had been taken with the Mary Street Bridge, it had experienced deterioration and was no longer safe for vehicular traffic.
We thank you for your co-operation and support as we complete the construction of the new pedestrian bridge.
