Upgrades starting on Rymal Road

HAMILTON, ON August 25, 2006 – The City of Hamilton, as part of its ongoing commitment to upgrading infrastructure, will be improving the road, sidewalk and municipal services on Rymal Road from Upper James Street to West 5th Street. Construction is expected to start Monday, August 28, 2006 and will take approximately four months to complete. The contract has been awarded to Lafarge Construction.

During construction, vehicular access on Rymal Road will have lane restrictions. Delays are expected. Local and emergency access will be maintained during these closures. Signs will be posted as required. Safety is our first concern, for both the public and our workers.

The work is being undertaken to protect the long-term value of the City’s transportation and infrastructure assets and help enhance the quality of life for Hamiltonians. Improvements along this road include: watermain replacement; installation of sidewalks on the south side of the road; and the widening of the road including reconstruction. Through watermain replacement the City can maintain its high standards of water quality and increase water volume for both residents and the fire hydrants. Upgrading sidewalk and road infrastructure on city streets helps to improve traffic flow and ensure safe travel in the future.

Every effort will be made to complete the work in an expeditious manner and to keep any inconvenience to a minimum.

We thank you for your co-operation and support during the construction season.
