ON – March 3, 2006 – The artwork of Doug MacBean is on display at Hamilton City Hall from Mar. 6, until Apr.14. The exhibition is on the first floor of Hamilton City Hall, 71 Main Street West, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Doug renders much reality into his art, and is true to his subject. Without labouring over fine detail, he creates an atmosphere, and this is critical to what he is trying to convey to the viewer. His concept is to have the viewer at least 6 to ten feet from the painting. His personal approach to realism connects, at a distance. Tonality, composition and subtle colours are key elements in all his paintings. As a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design, Doug has remained faithful to a solid academic drawing philosophy.
“With this exhibition, I have found wonderful subjects, to paint and ponder, in the Hamilton area,” says MacBean. “Upon moving here from Toronto, after two years I find the city more intriguing and beautiful, as I discover the hidden city. There are city-scapes and rural scenes here, to last a lifetime of painting for me. It is such a treat for me, to jump into my car and be out in the surrounding rural Ontario I love, in just a few minutes.”
